Weird. Got a call from 00 3353 (21) 238 0596 that is, according to a few "who called me" sites is Apple in Cork, Ireland.
But why would they call?…
Didn't pick up.

As is my habit after a wine tasting, I didn't attempt to be productive (such intense sessions are usually followed by fatigue and hunger); instead, I had a night of good music (mostly Rachmaninoff) and Reddit.
I often wish wine tastings could be smaller and more exclusive (with regards to the wines tasted). Just choosing what to taste is mentally exhausting; by the time you get around to tasting it…
@matigo 25? So that's post-PhD…that'll be quite a bill.

@matigo Congratulations / I'm so sorry (delete where appropriate). If you ever need suggestions for a nice wine…
Having an interesting debate with a friend (who's dragging his 3-yearr LLB to upwards of 5 years, incidentally) about whether my approach or his is better in the long run:
My approach: do a soft subject (linguistics), and wine on the side, then go into the F&B industry (hopefully), enjoy my job, start off earning not an awful lot but work my way up.
His approach: do a law degree because "it pays well and a degree is an investment", drag it on infinitely because he doesn't want to get a job (even though "it pays well"), accept being miserable at the day job but enjoy having "loads of money" to blow on having fun (on the one week's paid leave he'll get every year?)
Sometimes I do have doubts about my decision to do linguistics though, even with the wine qualification on the side. Looking at (happier and more successful) friends who've all gone into finance in some capacity, I wonder if I should've done the same — but I brought it up with them over Christmas and they all insisted that I would end up alright. Strangely, my parents don't have an opinion, even though mum's worked in HR/headhunting for well over 20 years now, except to insist that the university's reputation is of the utmost importance.
Huh.
Walking home, I was given a foam box of something hot and vegetarian by a bunch of Indian guys giving out food. Turns out it's basmati rice with curried chickpeas. Nice. Confused me for a minute though, one of them just walked up to me and put it in my hand.
@indigo I'll have a look at those. It's definitely something to consider. We only have this guy for 2 or 3 more weeks anyway, I think, before the other professor takes over; she seems far more interesting, even in the way she talks.

@matigo For your amusement? I think not.
I could, I suppose, though I'd never listen back to it. Learning via audio is so time consuming. Guess I'll just have to up my typing speed and reread the textbook.
This professor is unbearable. Monotone, and speaks faster than anyone in the room can type/write, with no pauses. We don't even have time to think.
