Update on my wine being sent to the wrong address:
They matched my email with his address, so I had the invoice with his address on it. Figured it couldn't hurt to send a letter just to explain why he would be receiving a very large and unexpected box. So I did, but never mentioned anything about getting the wine to me or refusing delivery.
It turns out the wine shop emailed him too asking him to refuse delivery, but the courier left it on the porch, so it's too late for that.
He called me just now — so he got my letter — to ask what we should do about it (I'd expected him to
just keep the wine). He could get it sent to me by his office's courier, but that would be 3x the cost of the shipping from Germany (not sure how the shop does it).
The shop's sent me a replacement anyway (minus a few wines that are now out of stock), so I suggested that, since he liked some of those wines, he could just keep everything. But he didn't want to, especially because he doesn't drink a lot of white wine.
Somehow, my pre-coffee brain came up with this, which he seemed very pleased with: I suggested that he keep a few bottles out for himself, which would hopefully cover the courier cost, and have the rest sent to me. Obviously he still needs to talk to the courier tomorrow etc., but it seems like he's okay with it.
So nothing's certain yet, but if this works out, we'll both have won.
