@kdfrawg I only very recently (in the last week) got into mixing; before that, I only had mixed drinks at bars. In fact, my home bar was so ill-suited for mixing (price-wise) that I had to do a separate purchase specifically for this project.

Even so, I've stuck to the simple and traditonal ones with minimal sugar: Manhattan, martini, boulevardier, negroni, bamboo, americano.

@kdfrawg Ah. I either drink my gin neat (slightly chilled), or 5:1 with dry vermouth and the tiniest drop of Angostura bitters.

@kdfrawg I keep my ingredients chilled and stir with a bit of ice for just a touch of dilution, but don't end up freezing my tongue. Then again, I have mixed feelings about cocktails, as many of them seem to exist purely to provide a market for bottom-shelf alcohol. 2- and 3-ingredient cocktails confuse me simply because, if the ingredients are that good, why mix them up?…

Why should a martini be that cold? Surely if you're using top-shelf ingredients, you don't need that much ice?

@kdfrawg Interesting use of punctuation. Makes for an entertaining read.

Many times.

Another crash.

Update on my wine being sent to the wrong address:

They matched my email with his address, so I had the invoice with his address on it. Figured it couldn't hurt to send a letter just to explain why he would be receiving a very large and unexpected box. So I did, but never mentioned anything about getting the wine to me or refusing delivery.

It turns out the wine shop emailed him too asking him to refuse delivery, but the courier left it on the porch, so it's too late for that.

He called me just now — so he got my letter — to ask what we should do about it (I'd expected him to
just keep the wine). He could get it sent to me by his office's courier, but that would be 3x the cost of the shipping from Germany (not sure how the shop does it).

The shop's sent me a replacement anyway (minus a few wines that are now out of stock), so I suggested that, since he liked some of those wines, he could just keep everything. But he didn't want to, especially because he doesn't drink a lot of white wine.

Somehow, my pre-coffee brain came up with this, which he seemed very pleased with: I suggested that he keep a few bottles out for himself, which would hopefully cover the courier cost, and have the rest sent to me. Obviously he still needs to talk to the courier tomorrow etc., but it seems like he's okay with it.

So nothing's certain yet, but if this works out, we'll both have won.

Looks like I walked 15km today. Have fallen asleep about 3 times since eating dinner, so it's definitely time for bed…

I've been thinking of doing that for a while now. Just need to work out things like Lightroom.
