@hazardwarning There are those that look like floor-standing fans and then have a hose that you stick out of a hole in the window, perhaps those might be less disruptive to the space as you could put it away when the worst is over.
Had a friend who lived just outside Paris and his country house was of the old sort — really thick walls so the interior was always around 20°C, even in July/August. Perhaps the alternative would be to pile rocks around your house.
