@height8 once, for a day. Can't remember the name of the place, but we stopped by on a cruise around Japan.

I may do.

On the short walk to the metro station, it actually reminded me of Paris' richer areas: remarkably clean, immense stretches of green space, and lots of glass. The entire metro station is glass. Shops don't even seem to have shutters or bars in place.

I appear to have booked an Airbnb in an ex-"ghetto". Suspected it as soon as I saw the massive blocks of buildings.

Feels decently safe though, judging by the number of well-maintained cars parked outside the building. In any case, dinner and cocktails will be sufficiently fatiguing that I'll almost certainly get an Uber back tonight, so that's no issue.

Nice experience anyway. Have never been inside one of these buildings before, and would never have if it hadn't been for this hopefully-happy accident. One night won't kill me, I'm sure.

spotless, like most of the streets. Everything on time as well.

for a city that prides itself on drinking burnt coffee, there're a lot of dozy buggers hanging around.

Amsterdam's trams are pretty awesome. Actual staff to speak to!

I suppose. Southern European countries don't seem to do a whole lot better though.

Socket at my seat appears not to be working.

Let's see how they handle this one…

Idiot at the train door was chatting away to his colleague and didn't acknowledge me as I was approaching. I took one step closer to the train door and he said "Hey, mind if I look at your ticket? Yeah, thanks."

I don't mind at all. It was open, on my phone, with the screen facing you, you lazy twat…

sounds amazing!
