@sumudu thankfully I never had to do the interview. Police registration was a Royal pain though, as always.
@matigo do you find that, compared to/after growing up with Canadian currency, you value money more in Japan?

Eteaket's gyokuro is underwhelming. CitySuper in HK has better, and it's just an overpriced supermarket.
@indigo Well yes, that's the other thing — if my connection were bridged to theirs, any restarts would either have to be done by them. Or via default passwords.
Ah well. I didn't go with it, in the end. Nice kitchen, but 3 bedrooms in a pretty poorly thought out layout just isn't for me, especially living alone. // @kdfrawg
@indigo It is surprisingly expensive. But this Quartermile one is only slightly more expensive than equivalent flats in much older buildings…wonder if I would have done better to spend this year in London (but then I would never have experienced life outside of a big city, and this year may be the only chance I get to do so).
I find it hard to have any confidence in someone who doesn't know what internet plan he's on. He seemed like the kind of guy who'd come knocking to complain that I was using too much bandwidth… // @kdfrawg
@indigo Ah. The couple that owns the townhouse we're currently staying at wanted to rent out a portion of their massive house that they've turned into a separate 3br "house"; the catch is that it's 1300£/month (Quartermile 1br flats are 1200 and in much better shape) and the network is bridged from the router in their front room — so I'd have to share a connection with those 2 and their 2 children (14 and 16).
Asked what subscription they had and all they could tell me was that it was "Uh…we're with Virgin, so it's the fastest one they have. It's good, you know!"
Quartermile has Virgin fibre to the building — obviously, as it's pretty much the newest development (ongoing) in the city.
And the idea of living right next to the owners and their children…just too close. // @kdfrawg
@kdfrawg Not sure which you're referring to!
I'll always set things like that up myself though. I can't trust anyone to set up a network…
This agency has been the most professional I've dealt with so far, but they're so fucking clueless about the apartment it's frustrating. Today's email conflicts with yesterday's "clarifications", missing information, incompetent cleaners forgetting to leave the keys behind…this is going to be a fun week.
And I need to set up my "battlestation", as some friends in HK call it, which means a fun trawl through Gumtree and IKEA.
It's cheaper to buy 2nd hand, but with the necessary van hire and everything…but I could buy a chair 2nd hand and get it home, I guess.
Unfit for public consumption? They can fuck right off.
Had to force restart after Chrome wouldn't even force quit properly.
Sick of this.
