@phoneboy some nice bars and restaurants though.
It seems that so many of the "big cities" in North America are shockingly pedestrian-unfriendly. This point-A-to-point-B culture is bizarre.
Vegas as an example:
- Absolutely mind blowing that one would have to wait 5 minutes to cross the road legally.
- Streets devoid of pedestrians: everyone hides in a coffee shop in the day, and in a bar at night. Restaurants and gambling in between. In short, all about spending money: there's minimal pleasure to be had from a simple long walk.
San Francisco is somewhat better, but still completely unwalkable. Same with Toronto and much of Montreal.
NYC is the only city I've been to that hasn't unsettled me in this way — it is possible to go for a nice walk in an environment that doesn't feel like some dystopian post-humanity world without relying on vehicles — but even then one might argue that only applies to certain parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn.
I've come to the conclusion that 2 of the things that really make me not get along with one of my aunts are her verbosity and her expectation of reciprocated verbosity.
Because I seriously dislike that kind of thing.
@matigo at those prices, they'd better be using nothing but Vancouver water for the entire establishment.
One has to be so careful on the Strip, it's quite exhausting. But I refuse to be one of those who just "plays the game" (in any sense of the phrase, here…).
Everything on the Strip in Vegas is a trap. Even Illy coffee: "Italian style", USD 0.50 under "Extras", just refers to them serving the coffee in a ceramic cup instead of paper.
The Canada Goose hard shell I bought 3 years ago has served me unbelievably well in many countries. Just wearing a fleece under this in Vegas at night with 40km/h winds and barely feeling anything.
Canada Goose and Arcteryx are both outrageously priced, but there is benefit to investing in quality…
@sumudu Nope. I have over 600 restaurant/cafe/bar notes but never published. I have considered making a github.io for them, because I have always made my notes in Markdown with YAML headers.
