@indigo A widget?
Crisis averted, removed all peripherals and it booted just fine. Looks like one of the MDP–DVI adapters is on its way out — it's only recognised on some of the TB ports, whereas the MDP–VGA adapter is recognised on all ports. Maybe that's what was confusing the computer.
But seriously, a monitor breaking the startup chain…come on…
@matigo Yep.
Money would've been better spent dividing the budget between an iMac and a nice Debian computer, or something.
Anyway…
@indigo Cmd-v. Problem is that when I boot, it takes a full minute for the monitors to show anything, and by then I'm just in the grey screen.
I have a grey screen, a cursor, and nothing else.
Held down cmd-R at the chime, but it didn't seem to want to get into recovery.
For fuck's sake. Mac Pro crashed, took the opportunity to clean the dust out etc. Now it's stuck on some grey gradient screen.
Apple's aversion to letting us know what's actually happening is really frustrating when it comes to these situations.
@kdfrawg Oh yes, the flavour change is incredible. It's just a shame I can't dedicate all of my budget to amazing meat.
@kdfrawg Well in this case, because it's roast/sear/grill cuts, real meat is 300% more expensive than the supermarket stuff.
But even after all this time, I still regularly go through the meat section in supermarkets — with one rule: I only buy if it's 20%+ off (due to expiry or whatever).
@kdfrawg Indeed.
That's what I get for getting something from the supermarket, I suppose. Looks like I'll have to resign myself to going exclusively to the good butcheries at 30€/kg if I'm to get anything with any flavour.
