I believe the Leica's shutters remain shut on the digital cameras. Most (d)SLRs I've used also.

Never understood the need for 2 types.

Well, a mechanical shutter is useful for preventing dust from getting on the sensor whilst changing lenses.

That aside, I’m not sure.

I’ve heard that too. But I suppose the intention is to do the best I can whilst still leaving the possibility of using these thumbdrives in the future (an increasingly rare scenario outside primitive systems).

Yes, in theory…

In my view, the way to solving policing problems in North America and in HK are to both raise the barriers to entry and make the package genuinely attractive for skilled people.

At the moment, in HK, all you need to join the police is to have not failed secondary school. Not even a requirement to speak usable English, despite HK being (or having once been) an international city. And they get paid HKD 24000/month for it as a starting salary, which is actually higher than many private sector junior positions — certainly higher than my starting salary. A terrible combination.

Yes, but that would mean I could set up a secure erase for 10 thumb drives and go to sleep. At the moment, Disk Utility literally cannot do anything else whilst a format/erase is in progress, which is intolerable.

Seriously dislike how iOS has different key combos for disabling biometrics across devices (eg rapid press lock 5 times on iPhone 7, but hold lock + volume on XR and iPad Pro): in situations where this would genuinely be useful, there's a very high risk of remembering the wrong combination if you have multiple generations of devices.

There's also the slight weight issue of carrying a 16" computer around.

After all these years, Disk Utility can't format multiple drives at the same time…

Which makes it really time-consuming to securely erase old thumbdrives.
