Called Virgin again.
Now they've delayed it to 8:30.
And apparently 8:30 is a "promise" because the engineers stop working after that time. Which makes me wonder if we're going to be offline until Monday.
Infuriating.
@kdfrawg So had I. But I had 200MB fibre to the apartment in Paris, and only 50 here. For reference, a friend in HK has 1GB fibre to the apartment.
It's better in London, no doubt, if only just a bit.

@kdfrawg One possible cause is drilling through a cable, apparently. And this area that I'm living in is still being built, so that may well be the case.
Which leads to the conclusion that more than just one company is incompetent here.
Well we won't know, because I'll be at the airport more than 20 minutes before the flight :p
If there's a 3 day outage though, I'm cancelling, or demanding that they move me to a business plan.
@indigo Perhaps all of the UK service companies are just run by one giant company that funnels people to wherever numbers are needed.

@kdfrawg Yes and no. For events and social life, I really prefer London, but daily life in HK Just Works.
