Still not open.

Not my fault! :P When I was younger I hated HK, wanted to live in Vancouver. More space, nicer weather, white Christmases…

It's quite eye-opening though — all of my friends in HK say so after spending a year or so elsewhere. Never thought one of the world capitals would have such bad transport.

Heh.

One day I'll get a license.

I'd never use it, but I'll get one.

The stations are easily as grim as Paris' worst, and the trains themselves feel even shabbier.

It's no wonder everyone drives.

The buses are even more primitive. Stop announcements are the driver speaking into a mic and the system replaying what he said, but louder.

And the damn ticket machine won't accept the card unless it's inserted in the right orientation (machines in Paris accept it in any orientation and spit it out the right way up).

Maybe. But I'll hold off on buying property myself in HK until I know for sure. And assume the worst.

(And yet I am quite insistent on getting a 3rd passport in case I need to give up my HK one in 2047. It won't be US or Swiss though as I don't like the way their taxes work.)

Indeed. Depressing in there. Don't even want to know what it's like in winter.

Shame, really. I always knew NY and London were my dream cities, HK aside — but now with Brexit, Trump, etc.…

Day 1 conclusion: love the city, absolutely detest the subway. Didn't think any developed area could have it worse than Paris — clearly NY does.
