This place has one hell of a sommelier. Just got a brief lesson on Austria and Furmint.

Birmingham's city centre is pedestrian/tram only. Too risky to hope for a cab to show. And I don't carry that much cash. And I like the silence of Uber. And I needed the phone rebooted anyway, obviously.

(All this panic to call an Uber)

I would've taken the bus but at £2.4 for a single trip outside the city centre and buses every 20 minutes, I couldn't be bothered. Uber seems to be £5 either way.

iPhone crashed 30 mins before a lunch appointment. Power+home wouldn't do anything, it was stuck on the spinning cog reboot. Ran to the Apple Store and they reminded me it was now home+vol down.

Sigh.

Will probably be just in time for lunch.

The only thing mixed was the tequila mixto, a category I'd until now only read about in articles describing the dangers of the lower shelves.

@kdfrawg Yes, I made the mistake of trusting the reviews. The risk triples in a small city like this where dive bars reign and £7 or under per cocktail is expected…half the people on the streets tonight seem to be bouncers.

So chose the wrong place for dinner. Awful Mexican chain.

Paid and came to a beer bar I hadn't seen recommended but got very good reviews when I looked it up after walking past it on the way to said awful restaurant. Great beer, comfortable ambiance, friendly staff…wonder if they do dessert…

@kdfrawg Wow, that's intense.

Had never tasted a more watery americano before, but it was clear that the beans themselves were fresh and full of flavour.

During today's tasting I described the Stanton & Killeen Topaque NV as having aromas of "matcha mochi, straw, tatami, gyokuro."

I thought it was the 6 hours of tasting finally catching up to me, but recorded it anyway, until one of the MWs hosting commented on how she always tasted chamomile tea in Muscadelle Topaques, and another later told me she smelt oolong tea in it.

Not so far off after all(?)

Seriously affordable wine too…
