@jussipekonen Had no idea that was a thing…unfortunately that must motivate a lot of people to actually decrease their security practices just to lessen the inconvenience.

Had been wondering for weeks why MS Teams didn't recognise my microphone connected via the Steinberg UR44.
Just found out the reason today: MS Teams lets you select the input device, but not the input channel. It seems to be hard-coded only to accept Input 1. Since my microphone was connected to Input 2 (of 4), no sound was getting through.
Sigh.
@matigo My deep interest is in reducing the amount of time I spend at the (fully remote) day job, so there's great motivation there.
@matigo Oh it'll be many years before I even consider doing anything with GUI I think. My main focus is automating away the little daily tasks — often pretty stable workflows, just piping data around, sometimes between APIs. I could probably get by very comfortably for the next 5+ years with just basic Python and JS knowledge. I was just curious about lower-level, statically typed, and compiled languages, so decided to do Advent of Code in one — which is a pretty significant challenge given that I have no formal education in any related fields.
I do believe I just agreed to a triple-programming(? pair programming but with 3 people) session with 2 of my oldest friends on Tuesday to help one of them get more comfortable with Python and to practice my Rust with the other.
Which means I might be doing Advent of Code in both languages at the same time.
That would be interesting, especially with Rust already being a very difficult language for me.
Once you train your ear to identify pitch correction, it's impossible to ignore. Sometimes I think that's more curse than anything else….
@matigo Good coffee is worth a journey. I tend to plan my trips around coffee, cocktails, and food.

@variablepulserate It works excellently for news sites that use cookies to track how many "free articles" you have left, since nothing like uBlock Matrix or uBlock Origin is available for iOS.

@streakmachine If everyone did things your way, we'd never need newer and faster computers, and the tech stocks wouldn't grow as they do, which would be a terrible thing, because basically my entire retirement depends on the consumerist elite handing over money they don't own to the giants and therefore keeping indexes like the Nasdaq 100 growing at a pleasant rate.
