@matigo Funnily enough, they don't really trash the airport — they just organise massive sit-ins. I might have to arrive a few hours earlier than usual though, so I'll see if I can get a lounge pass…
@matigo I'll be in the US in the last 2 weeks of November. I don't think they'll try to block people from travelling if they haven't been charged with anything — there's absolutely no justification for it.
Which is not to say it won't happen.
No one saw this coming: minutes after the face mask ban (announced around 3pm and which goes into effect at midnight — just under 2 hours now), protests started in almost every inhabited area of the city.
Includes torching train stations, smashing Bank of China ATMs (apparently one of the branches has been set on fire as well), and vandalising any offices or restaurants proven to show loyalty to China.
Because, of course, it is the grand finale: the last protest where they can't be charged for wearing face masks. So they're making it big. I won't be surprised if half the city is charred by tomorrow morning.
Some supermarkets are already out of food and the ATMs in the main business district this afternoon had all run out of money, according to my colleagues.
On a more worrying note, doctors and lawyers are taking serious issue with the mask ban: it has serious implications for personal privacy and for sick people/those with weaker immune systems.
@peemee Quite. I am working on converting a great deal of my HKD into USD just in case some genius decides the HKD should no longer be pegged to the USD — and so I can make an easier escape to Canada if need be.
Hours after the Emergency Regulation Ordinance is invoked to ban masks at protests, the Executive Councillor brings up the idea that a social media ban "under special circumstances" should be considered.
Like no one saw that coming.
Next thing you know, HK will be like Turkey…or worse, China.
It is really quite pathetic that, after all these years, if you rename a file in MacOS Finder and the new name contains a forbidden character (e.g. colon), an error pops up and the filename reverts to the original — all changes are lost.
So it is confirmed that the police shot into a group of journalists and blinded one.
Yet somehow I doubt anything will come of this.
@hybotics You may be thinking of capsule hotels. Those exist in HK but I think @matigo's thinking of the (illegal) "cage homes" [youtube.com]

@matigo They are rather odd. Space is scarce enough in Hong Kong as it is, the last thing we need is maximalist decoration.
