@gtwilson That really sucks. Any chance you can just leave?
@gtwilson I have a thing where I'll wait 15 minutes (whilst keeping an eye out for messages) and then assume it's been cancelled.
@larand Yep. It did all seem a little unsettlingly formal to me at first.

@hazardwarning I’d love to have a wine and cheese evening, it’s been a while. At least this uni has a wine society, and they’re having some kind of tasting on Monday evening. Need to mingle with those people, as I have a feeling I’ll get quite tired of just talking about linguistics and psychology.
@thrrgilag It's a nice language to learn casually — not too different from English to be a massive pain, but different enough to have a good time doing it.
I also find it rather boring to return to a language without declensions after spending time with languages that do use declensions, particularly in literature where the added word order flexibility contributes a lot to the narration.

@blumenkraft It's not too weird. "Nicht" as close to the end as possible, unless a verb or verb part needs to go at the end, in which case the verb/verb part gets the priority.
I think.

@kdfrawg It is in this part of the world, but in HK, I find waking up to grey gloominess with insane humidity quite soothing in the most melancholic way. But the neon lights never turn off in HK, so maybe it's just the contrast that's quite nice.

A rather badly organised event this afternoon: 1-hour "afternoon tea" for our group and they ran out of sandwiches, tea, and coffee in 15 minutes. I'd been banking on that to serve as lunch.
